SPFBO SEMIFINALIST ANNOUNCEMENT #2

Kristen has picked the Werewolf of Whitechapel as her semifinalist!!! Here’s her review if you missed it the first time!

The Werewolf of Whitechapel is the story of Elizabeth Sharp, who is a woman in a vaguely Victorian England wherein all of the royalty in Europe are monsters of various types such as werewolves and vampires. Elizabeth was scarred by a werewolf attack and has since lost her memory and ended up in a sort of boarding school for people that have been attacked by monsters, as this tends to give them superior strength and senses. These women are taught to use their abilities to work as bodyguards. Elizabeth has been hired to be the bodyguard of the current princess, and a whole bunch of shenanigans go down.

I enjoy a good urban fantasy, especially when they are paranormal in nature. I also really enjoy books that take place in the Victorian era for some reason (I think it’s because I like steampunk and those things are vaguely the same in my head?). But either way, I really enjoyed The Werewolf of Whitechapel. I listened to the audiobook in just short of 2 days despite not really having time to listen to audiobooks. The writing flowed really well, the story was paced fantastically, and it was really easy to stay in the story. The main character was likable enough that I never had an issue cheering for her.

This one reminds me somewhat of the Athena Club books by Theodora Goss, only more directed towards adults, and I was 100% here for that.

All told, I would give The Werewolf of Whitechapel 8 out of 10 stars.
