I bought this for cheap a while ago and just never got around to reviewing it. I checked the listed price now and it says 15 dollars, but I remember paying something closer to 8. It’s been updated a few times and I haven’t had to pay for any of it. I’m not sure if I bought a beta version or if I bought it on sale. Regardless, would I pay 15 dollars for it now knowing what it is? Yes.

So, basically this is your standard build your realm and defend your castle type game. You’ve got a finite amount of space and resources to build your kingdom, and each “day” is timed, when night rolls around, you get attacked. The attacks start out really small and easy to defend against, but by night 30 shit goes down.

I wouldn’t say this is as detailed as something like Civ, this is a much more toned down version of it though. There’s currency, trading posts, smithy’s, iron foundries, lumber yards, treasuries, taverns etc. I would say this is just detailed enough to keep my interest. I would have liked for there have been more to it, but ultimately this is a cheap game, it’s not Civ. It’s a cute way to spend some time, and I’ll be honest, when I first started playing I was having difficulty making it through 15 day-night cycles, it does make you have to plan out your resources in a way where you don’t overspend on frivolous things.
This is a great type of video game if you’re someone like myself who likes to audiobook as they play. It’s not “mindless” per se, but it definitely allows for some audio multitasking if you like to listen to a show, podcast, or audiobook while you game.
The graphics are pretty cartoonish, but I think that’s just fine. There’s not a lot in the way of sound effects, and I say that because it’s a good thing if you’re going to have a repetitive game like this. Having sound effects that are in your face and get played over and over again can easily kill a game like this.
I’d say this is a fun, cheap game suitable for all ages. If you want to teach your kids strategy games this could be a great place to start. If you want something advanced that will keep you playing for a long time, if you’re looking for something equivelant to CIV, this is not it.
