Possible shut down of Weatherwax Report in 2019

Posted by

Hey guys,

I am debating with myself whether I’m shutting down my site after I finish with SPFBO stuff. There is a possibility that instead of quitting blogging altogether, instead, I will just stop taking review requests. The final official decision hasn’t been made yet, and it will depend largely on my health status.

I am incredibly sick, I’m not doing well, and I’m also totally burned out. I got myself in over my head with review requests and with my illness I just keep falling further and further behind. I’ve been sleeping for the majority of the day for weeks on end, and when I’m conscious it’s hard to concentrate. I can barely read, let alone come up with a review. It’s getting to the point where it’s giving me anxiety thinking about how many books I still have on my review request list that I haven’t gotten to yet.

I’ve had a blast while doing this in the past, but in recent months it’s become daunting. I’ve let other hobbies like my music, painting, knitting, video games, hiking, etc go to the wayside and 100% of my free time is being eaten by reading and reviewing.

I’ll continue to support TBRindr, and indie authors. I will still read from time to time but it’ll be on my own time. I understand that you guys want reviews to come out quickly, but messaging me asking when it’s coming out, or asking me to post the review to another site that you prefer is just getting to be too much. They aren’t unreasonable requests when you only get 1 of them, but I have hundreds of review requests a year and it’s getting unruly. There is a small chance that after some rest I will take a few review requests again much later on next year – but I don’t anticipate that happening for a while.

Thanks so much for all your support, this has been a crazy ride.

  1. You’ve been a bright light in the online community, and so I’ve no doubt a suffocating number of moths have taken to plunging at you. Hopefully a bit of a break will let you catch your breath and have fun with it again.

  2. Take all the time you need, and whatever you decide to do, we’ll always cheer you on. I hope you feel better soon 🙂

  3. Always do whatever is best for your health, Esme, and take all the time you need. I can imagine how daunting it gets and totally understand your anxiety levels spiking (right there with you). You have always been a light in this community and if you decide to shut down Weathewax Report, you will be missed, but you will always be supported by us and have a friend in me in your corner, no matter what! <3

  4. Your health and well being is the most important thing Esme. Whatever you did for indie authors has been of service but now it’s time for you. Don’t feel guilty. Life is taking you down a new road now. I wish you god speed in your quest for peace of mind. Kindest regards.

  5. You take care of yourself first and foremost, Esme! I know I’m not alone in being incredibly grateful for all you’ve done, but your health and peace of mind at #1 🙂

  7. Health has to come first, even if we will all miss you. Thanks for reviewing two of my works, Esme, your words really meant a lot, especially now since I know you were battling so much behind the scenes. I hope you feel better and get the rest you need.

  8. As someone who enjoys your blog and your reviews without every really reaching out to interact, I just want to say thank you. I’ve always been impressed with how much you give to the community and how much work you put into it. I hope you get well soon, and we’re all definitely all in your corner.

  9. There’s only one person that matters here, Esme, and that’s you. And there’s only one thing that matters – video games…

But in all seriousness, all the best, and take care of yourself. I hope you enjoy some well-deserved rest and, above all, fun!
